Checking Out Valentino

{skirt: vintage Valentino from Friperie Fitzroy, top: Cue, belt: vintage, shoes: RMK}

Recently, I posted about the first designer piece to find a home in my closet: this vintage Valentino skirt. I love the richness and depth of colour in this piece, as well as the delicate gold detailing. The various colours can easily be accentuated by mixing up the make up look, or pairing it with vibrant accessories.

For a dreary winter day, I decided to pair it with bright lips and nails to bring out the fuchsia hues. It definitely helped to lift the sombre winter mood and brought a hint of Valentino romanticism into my day.

Pulled Up

{frock: vintage from Friperie Fitzroy, knit vest: Sportsgirl, cropped cardigan: Lolitta, shoes: Aldo, bag: Mimco, sunglasses: Chanel}

Inspired by pleats, I decided to take one of my favourite pleated 50s-style summer frocks and make it autumn-appropriate. What I love about this dress is how the tailored look of the bodice is balanced with long, pleated a-line skirt, which gives a feminine silhouette and makes you feel like twirling all over town.

Being a light, cotton frock, I added some texture and a more wintry, neutral palette by throwing on a cropped cardigan and short-sleeved knit vest. I was excited to try the socks-and-stilettos combo that I have been eyeing off of late, so I paired platform heels with some old high school socks, which transported me back to the classroom instantly.

Vintage Valentino

{Skirt: Vintage Valentino from Friperie Fitzroy}

I am not someone who owns many (read: any) designer pieces, so I was absolutely beside myself when my lovely friend Marthes, who owns the best vintage boutique in Melbourne (Friperie Fitzroy), put this wonderful skirt aside especially for me.

I gained a lot of respect for Valentino upon seeing the documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor recently. The eccentricity of Valentino himself, with his seven pugs and homes all over the globe, combined with the craftsmanship, detail and love that goes into each of his pieces really demonstrated the beauty of designer labels, and why they are so sought after.

To think that this delightful piece of couture was designed and perhaps even touched by the man himself, sometime in the 1980s, makes me so very excited about it being all mine; I know I will treasure it for a long time to come.

Navy Blues

{Blouse: Vintage, Shorts: Zara, Belt: Vintage, Bag: Kate Hill, Shoes: RMK}

Autumn is by far my favourite season. The streets drenched in auburn and gold leaves, the fresh mornings that evolve into sunny days, the mild evenings and casual rain. That's all delightful, but honestly, it's the fashion that wins me over. Opaque tights make a resurgence, jackets are a necessity, and comfortable booties are suddenly a staple.

Navy is fast becoming the colour of winter, so I was desperate to make my favourite Zara shorts work during the cooler weather. Pairing them with my favourite black loafer/bootie/pumps, as well as this vintage hand-me-down 70's blouse from my Mum, makes them office appropriate, and cute-to-boot!
