Vintage Valentino

{Skirt: Vintage Valentino from Friperie Fitzroy}

I am not someone who owns many (read: any) designer pieces, so I was absolutely beside myself when my lovely friend Marthes, who owns the best vintage boutique in Melbourne (Friperie Fitzroy), put this wonderful skirt aside especially for me.

I gained a lot of respect for Valentino upon seeing the documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor recently. The eccentricity of Valentino himself, with his seven pugs and homes all over the globe, combined with the craftsmanship, detail and love that goes into each of his pieces really demonstrated the beauty of designer labels, and why they are so sought after.

To think that this delightful piece of couture was designed and perhaps even touched by the man himself, sometime in the 1980s, makes me so very excited about it being all mine; I know I will treasure it for a long time to come.
